Dictone
Progress
Where it stands: The iPhone version is in internal TestFlight testing, and a small group of readers will get to try it for free first. I use the Mac version myself every day.
- First Mac version; Polish and Translate each get their own hotkey; the interface comes in multiple languages; the personal dictionary auto-corrects after recognition; voice commands launch (select text and rewrite it by speaking)
- Long recordings no longer lose content; switching the interface language takes effect right away; your clipboard is restored after pasting; set the languages you speak and let it detect which one you're using; if the mic picks up nothing, it falls back to the built-in one; at the end of the month, the iPhone keyboard's recording approach finally works
- The iPhone keyboard is ready for everyday typing; a more accurate recognition engine; the personal dictionary comes to iPhone; Translate works in both directions and shows what it heard; Polish lets you pick a tone; Chinese numerals that are clearly quantities become digits
- Flash notes (one tap to record from the iPhone Lock Screen, Control Center or Action button); account sign-in and sync across devices; words you fix before sending are learned into your dictionary; settings, flash notes and history share one window on Mac; first TestFlight upload on Oct 26
Up next: External TestFlight testing (a public link for a few members of my book club and creator academy) → Mac version available to download from the website

Dictone is a voice typing app. Speaking is three times faster than typing, and it writes Chinese the way people in Taiwan actually write. In any app, press a hotkey and start talking: the text appears right at your cursor, with punctuation, paragraphs and proper nouns already handled. It’s text you can send as is, not a raw transcript.
Features
- Polish: Replying to a message or writing an email? Just say it, and your speech becomes clean written text: filler words go, and when you change your mind mid-sentence, it writes what you ended up meaning. It tidies up; it never adds anything.
- Translate: Getting in touch with clients or friends abroad? Speak in whatever language comes naturally, and Translate writes it out in any of 19 languages.
- Personal dictionary: Add the names, brands and jargon you use to your personal dictionary, and they stop coming out as sound-alike words. For the stubborn ones, press the correction hotkey once and it remembers.
- Rewrite by speaking: Want to change something you’ve already written? Select it and say “cut this in half” or “make it a list”, or press a hotkey to translate it. No retyping.
- Flash notes: An idea hits and your hands are busy? Start recording with one tap from the iPhone Lock Screen, Control Center or Action button, and a flash note catches it before it’s gone.
- iPhone and Mac: A keyboard on iPhone, a hotkey on Mac. Sign in and your dictionary, tones, history and flash notes follow you between them. On Mac you can also keep recognition entirely on your computer, so your voice never leaves it.
