About this episode

Many people say "time is money," so time is our most important resource. But that isn't quite precise enough.

Time can't be reversed, but you can still buy back some room by spending money, outsourcing or using tools. There's one resource, though, that can't be outsourced or bought at all, and once it's taken from you, your experience of life disappears with it — and that's attention.

In this third episode of the Four Thousand Weeks series, we talk about the book's core idea: attention > time > money Your life is the sum of your attention.

You'll hear: • Why "time is money" isn't precise enough, and why attention is the truly irreplaceable resource • Do you remember what you had for breakfast the day before yesterday? A thought experiment that shows the real cost of having your attention stolen • Why, when you use social media, you're not the customer but the product being sold • Why short videos are so hard to stop: how they mimic slot machines and hijack your dopamine • Pain × resistance = suffering: a Zen master's ice-water practice, and my own experience of a 10-day Vipassana retreat • How many more times will you see your parents? A concrete calculation that makes you rearrange life's priorities

If you feel you don't have enough time but can't say where it all goes; if you're working hard yet life often feels empty and unanchored; if you want to work out what's truly worth investing in, this episode will help you see one thing clearly: time is the container of life, but attention is its real content. Your life is made up of what you've truly paid attention to. It's not how many years you've lived, but what you've truly given yourself to.
